Maysir
ميسر
Gambling or speculation where one party gains at the direct expense of another.
Maysir is broader than casino gambling. Any transaction where wealth changes hands based purely on chance, rather than real economic activity, falls into this category. Highly speculative trading strategies can also qualify.
Islamic perspective
Maysir is prohibited because it generates no real value and is essentially a zero-sum transfer of wealth. This distinguishes it from genuine investing, where you are funding real businesses and sharing in their real-world profits.
